Letter from the New Member Educator

Dear Potential New Sister,

Hello! My name is Annie Haywood, and I am THRILLED to be the 2020 New Member Educator (NME) for the Alpha Mu Chapter of Tri Delta. In this role, I am responsible for implementing Tri Delta’s New Member Education Program, ensuring that new members are informed about the organization as a whole as well as our chapter’s own unique culture, and successfully integrating each and every new member into a sisterhood that they feel proud to be a part of. I cannot begin to explain how excited I am to welcome all of our new members this upcoming Fall. It is an honor to have the opportunity to assist them in finding a home in Tri Delta, just as I have.

Beginning on Bid Day, I will work to integrate the new members into our chapter. In addition to the formal Tri Delta education module, the new member period is filled with tons of fun sisterhood activities and opportunities to get to know current members as well as the other members of the 2020 Pledge Class. Myself and the Sponsor Chair (Hannah Ryan) will work together to plan these events, which will hopefully include activities such as kayaking on Lake Matoaka, cookie decorating and karaoke at the house, sandcastle building and stargazing at College Creek, and even an overnight Pledge Retreat preceding the official Initiation Ceremony in November. We will also be in charge of pairing each new member with 1-2 older members before we formally match each new member with a Sponsor (often referred to as a “Big”). Throughout this journey, Hannah and I aim to create a space full of laughter and joy, but that also includes room for personal growth and the creation of lifelong bonds. We are committed to ensuring that each new member feels supported in their authentic and genuine selves throughout the entire new member process and beyond.

There are many reasons why I am grateful to serve as Tri Delta’s 2020 New Member Educator, but above all, I LOVE THIS CHAPTER. I recognize and appreciate how much not only this organization but these women have done for me. The work that we do with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and through our Body Image 3D campaign have given me the extraordinary opportunity to be an activist for positive change while further pushing me to become the best version of myself that I can be. Diversity and inclusion are values that each and every member of our chapter hold very highly, and the conversations and interactions I have had with the women I have met in Tri Delta have provided me with the space to reflect on my own experiences as well as greater issues of inequality and inequity that exist in our world. Our chapter celebrates individuality, and our unique range of passions are all tied together through our shared core values and our commitment to be kind alike to all. There is no one type of Tri Delta. We do not want you to come here and be like us, but rather come here and BRING YOU! I am overjoyed to be a part of the process that will soon expand our sisterhood with BRAVE, BOLD, and KIND women who take pride in being a Tri Delta.

On behalf of myself, Hannah, and the rest of our exceptional chapter, we are so excited to welcome our future new members into the amazing sisterhood that is Tri Delta. If you have any questions/comments/concerns, please feel free to contact me.

DLAM (Delta Love And Mine),

Annie Haywood
